CANADIAN PIANIST JEAN-MICHEL BLAIS COMES TO FINLAND FOR THE FIRST TIME
Pianist and composer Jean-Michel Blais will perform for the first time in his career in Finland in September. The widely praised and awarded musician will take the stage at Helsinki's G Livelab on Friday, September 22. Tickets will go on sale at G Livelab's own ticket shop, Lippu.fi and Tiketti.
Blais has mentioned Frédéric Chopin and Sergei Rachmaninoff as well as Steve Reich, Philip Glass and Yann Tiersen as great sources of inspiration and role models. In addition to musical influences, his works include important and emotional themes and experiences for their author. Blais has said that he has interpreted his experiences in his compositions, including Tourette's syndrome and working with children from difficult backgrounds.
The composer's third album "Aubades", which has performed extensively around the world, was released last year via the prestigious Canadian Arts&Crafts label (e.g. Feist, Broken Social Scene). Blais' latest release is the "sérénades" EP, which came out at the beginning of March, and the cinematic songs are also a great example of the author's ability to tell touching stories with his music.
On his journey through different stylistic trends, Blais has also published minimalist music, built with samples and electronic elements. The multifaceted artist has emerged as one of the interesting new composers, and the influences and styles in his works are woven into captivating worlds in the songs.
